Apologize if you bump into or hurt someone. Adjust your dancing to ensure safety. Be mindful of dance space and slotting. Move to a less packed part of the dance floor when walking onto the floor. Do not back up onto the floor, use your eyes to navigate to a free space on the dance floor.\u00a0<\/p><\/li><li><p data-path-to-node=\"1,1,0\"><b data-path-to-node=\"1,1,0\" data-index-in-node=\"0\">Boundaries &amp; Consent:<\/b> Always respect personal boundaries regarding dance holds, moves (like dips), and conversation. If you are unsure of someone&#8217;s comfort level, ask. If asked to stop\u2014verbally or non-verbally\u2014do so immediately. If you are frequently hurting others or being hurt by others, please ask a community leader for advice on how to approach this dance in a more sustainable fashion.\u00a0<\/p><\/li><li><p data-path-to-node=\"1,2,0\"><b data-path-to-node=\"1,2,0\" data-index-in-node=\"0\">Invitations:<\/b> You have the right to say &#8220;no&#8221; to a dance, and you must respect others&#8217; right to do the same. You may stop a dance at any time without explanation if you feel unsafe or uncomfortable.<\/p><\/li><li><p data-path-to-node=\"1,3,0\"><b data-path-to-node=\"1,3,0\" data-index-in-node=\"0\">Substances &amp; Inclusivity:<\/b> Alcohol\/substances can impede your judgment, especially in pickup up on non-verbal ques. If you bump into someone, apologize. If you hurt someone, apologize, and also try to figure out how you can keep it from happening again. This might mean not dancing with them again, or talking to your teacher.<\/p><p>\u25cf Respect other people\u2019s boundaries. We can do some crazy things around here, please remember just because you see someone do something with someone else doesn\u2019t mean they will want to do it with you! This applies to everything from close dance holds to moves like dips, flirty conversations or just agreeing to dance. If you aren\u2019t sure of someone\u2019s boundaries, or can\u2019t tell from their nonverbal cues, then ask them. If you misjudge, and they ask you to stop, either verbally or nonverbally (such as with a facial expression or a body language cue), then stop.<\/p><p>\u25cf Ask, and respond, respectfully. People around here usually happily accept an invitation to dance, but it is also okay to say \u201cno.\u201d If you are turned down for a dance, please respect that decision and find someone else to dance with instead. If at any point in a dance you feel uncomfortable or unsafe, you can tell your partner that you are uncomfortable, ask for any adjustments you need, or stop the dance before the song ends without explanation. Requests for your own safety and comfort are respectful of our partner as your ally in creating fun for everyone, and are not the same as offering someone unsolicited feedback on their dance skills (which is generally considered rude). If you are often uncomfortable in dances or often the recipient of these kinds of requests for adjustments, you should consider reaching out to a teacher or trusted ally for help.<\/p><p>\u25cf Remember that alcohol and other substances can make it harder to judge boundaries accurately; please be mindful of your limits so that you can be mindful of others. This environment is for everyone regardless of race, age, level of dance, sexual orientation, gender\/gender identity, disability, physical appearance, religion, or anything else. We do not tolerate harassment or threats of any kind. Within reason, any preventable situation which makes another person feel unsafe or uncomfortable to the point of being unable to enjoy the event is unacceptable and can be considered harassment. If you harass or threaten someone, you may be asked to leave.<\/p><p><strong>Expected Behavior:<\/strong><\/p><ul><li>Be Courteous and Respectful: Treat others with kindness and courtesy. Foster a welcoming and positive atmosphere for all.<\/li><li>Treat Others Well: Respect personal boundaries and diverse perspectives.<\/li><li>Communicate Respectfully: Use inclusive language and avoid derogatory or offensive comments or gestures.<\/li><li>Respect Event Spaces: Treat all venues and property with care.<\/li><li>Adhere to Event Rules: Follow all instructions from event staff and organizers.<br \/><br \/><\/li><\/ul><p><strong>Unacceptable Behavior:<\/strong><\/p><p>The following behaviors are considered harassment and are strictly prohibited, both in-person at the event and online (e.g., social media, email, messaging apps):<\/p><ul><li>Harassment: Any unwelcome or unwanted conduct that makes another person feel intimidated, humiliated, or offended. This includes, but is not limited to:<ul><li>Verbal comments that reinforce social structures of domination related to gender, age, sexual orientation, disability, physical appearance, body size, race, religion.<\/li><li>Sexual images in public spaces.<\/li><li>Deliberate intimidation, stalking, or following.<\/li><li>Harassing photography or recording.<\/li><li>Sustained disruption of talks or other events.<\/li><li>Inappropriate physical contact.<\/li><li>Unwelcome sexual attention.<\/li><li>Advocating for or encouraging any of the above behaviors.<\/li><li>Discrimination: Any unfair or prejudiced treatment based on personal characteristics.<\/li><li>Non-Consensual Sexual Advances: Always respect boundaries. &#8220;No&#8221; means &#8220;No.&#8221;<\/li><li>Defamation and libel: Making false accusations, fabricating or exaggerating facts to negatively impact someone\u2019s experience or place in our community.
